Clubography

How Clubography works, and how the scoring adds up

One footballer a day. His career's on the card, clubs hidden. Peel them one at a time or guess straight away. The earlier you get him, the more you score.

The free ones
The first few clubs cost nothing. Have a look.
Peeling
Every club after that costs points, and each one costs more than the last.
Clues
Position, honours and country are there if you want them. They're not free either. Country costs the most, since it slices the pool hardest.
Guessing
Five goes. A wrong one costs points and the next costs more.
Spelling
Don't worry about it. Surname's usually enough. Accents, near misses and the usual misspellings all count.
The result
A row of blocks that shows how you did without showing who it was. Send it.

The numbers behind all that can change; we tune them against how people actually play.

Questions people ask

How many guesses do I get?

Five. Getting it right on the first go scores the most; each wrong guess after that costs more than the last.

Do I have to peel every club before I guess?

No. You can guess the moment you recognise him, even off the first free club. Peeling is there for when you don't.

What if I misspell the name?

It still counts, almost always. The matcher is deliberately forgiving: surname on its own, accents left off, common misspellings. You're not being tested on spelling.

What are the clues?

Position, honours and country, in that order. Each one costs points, and country costs the most.

Does everyone get the same Journey?

Yes. Same player, same clubs, same day, for everyone. That's what makes the shared result mean something.
