A football Wordle, except it's careers

The daily football game: same player for everyone, a new one at midnight.

Clubography is a daily football game in the same mould as the word game that ate everyone's mornings. One puzzle, once a day, the same for everyone, and a result you can send without giving it away. The puzzle's a footballer's career, hidden club by club. If you got here looking for a football Wordle, this is the one that's about careers rather than letters.

Who is he?

A wrong name costs 30

A real card from a past Journey, and it plays. Valencia, then Chelsea. The answer's on his own Journey page if you want it.

What a day looks like

The Journey goes up at midnight in London. You open it, a couple of clubs are showing, and you decide: guess now or look at one more. Every club you peel costs points, every wrong guess costs more, and there are five guesses. Then the result card: a row of coloured blocks, green if you got him, and nothing that says who it was.

Why one a day

Because that's what makes the result mean something. If everyone's had the same card, your row next to a friend's row is a conversation. The Friends League keeps the week's score between the people you've added, and the Global League shows where you landed against everyone who played. Tomorrow there's a new one, and they're numbered, so "did you get #41" means the same thing to everyone.

A daily football quiz with no questions

There's no round of twenty trivia questions here. It's one career and the knowing of it. People who do well aren't the ones with the most facts, they're the ones who remember a loan spell at Brighton or a season in Qingdao. Both of those have been the giveaway on past Journeys. The Answers page has all of them.

Is there an unlimited mode?

Not for the daily one, on purpose. Finish it and the app has Extra Packs, twenty more careers you unlock free by sharing your score and then play any time. There's a practice round when you first open it too. If what you typed was football Wordle unlimited, the Extra Packs are the nearest thing here. The daily Journey stays one a day. That's the point of it.

Other daily football games

There are a few now and some are very good. We compared them honestly in Daily football games compared, including the ones that are a Wordle with a footballer's surname in it.

Questions people ask

What time does the new one come out?

Midnight London time, every day, Christmas included.

Is it a football Wordle?

Same shape, different puzzle. One a day, same for everyone, a shareable result. You're working out a career from its clubs, not a word from its letters.

Is it anything to do with Wordle?

No. Wordle is a trademark of The New York Times Company and Clubography isn't affiliated with it. We share the once-a-day habit, nothing else.

Is it free?

Yes. No ads in the game, nothing to sign up for to start.

Can I play yesterday's?

The answer and the full career are on the Answers page the morning after. Replaying it isn't a thing yet.

Does it work in a browser?

The daily game is in the iOS and Android apps. On a laptop you can try a free practice round, and scan a code to get the app.

What if I miss a day?

You miss it. Tomorrow's one is a fresh start.
