Guess the footballer from his clubs

No photo. No badge. Just where he's been.

Most guess the footballer games show you a blurred face or a row of flags. Clubography shows you his career. One club at a time, in the order he joined them, with the years and the league numbers. You guess the player from the shape of it. Early, if you can, because every club you look at costs you points.

Who is he?

A wrong name costs 30

A real card from a past Journey, and it plays. PSV, then Manchester United. If you've got him already you'd have scored big. If not, reveal a club, and the answer's on his own Journey page.

How the guessing works

Five guesses. Surname on its own is nearly always enough, and spelling isn't marked: accents, double letters, the usual near misses all count. A wrong guess costs points and the next one costs more, so a wild punt isn't free. You can guess the moment he clicks, or peel another club first. Position, honours and country are there as clues if you're stuck. They cost too.

Who am I? The football quiz where the clubs do the talking

A Journey is a who am I football quiz built from clubs instead of riddles. If you want a stack of them with the answers, for a pub quiz or a long drive, the Answers page has every past Journey: the clubs in order, years, apps and goals, and the name at the top. Today's is never on there. That's the game.

Guess the player by career, not by face

The pool is men's senior football, built from public data and checked against a second source. Nearly every player has had a spell in England at some point. Where he went before and after is usually the giveaway: the loan nobody remembers, the season in Turkey, the club he came back to. That's what you're guessing from, and it rewards a different kind of fan. Not the one with the most facts. The one who remembers.

Then send it

Your result is a row of coloured blocks, not a name, so it goes straight in the group chat without ruining anyone's go. A Friends League keeps score between the people you add. Everyone gets the same player, so a green row next to a red one needs no explanation.

Questions people ask

Do I need his full name?

No. Surname does it almost every time.

Does it take misspellings?

Yes. Accents left off, a letter doubled, the usual phonetic mangling. You're not being marked on spelling.

How many guesses do I get?

Five. Each wrong one costs more than the last.

Is it only Premier League players?

No. Nearly all of them have played in England at some point, but the careers go everywhere: Serie A, the Bundesliga, the Süper Lig, MLS, the lower leagues.

Can I guess the footballer with friends?

Yes. Send your result and they get a link to the same Journey with your score to beat. The Friends League keeps the running tally.

Is there a guess the footballer quiz for one club?

Not as a separate mode. The Answers page lists every past Journey with his first and last club, so you can find the ones that passed through yours.
